Raymond Loewy, de industriële designer die het moderne leven vorm gaf ontwierp veel, heel véél... zoals de greyhound bus, Shell, Spar, Le Creuset pannen, auto’s, boten, treinen, kasten, stoelen, naaimachine, jukebox en het bekende lucky strike pakje. Echt heel bijzonder en je kunt met gemak een 2 kilometer lange blog over Loewy schrijven. Maar waar het nu om gaat is dat Raymond Loewy het logo voor BP heeft ontworpen. Een embleem met superman, ik bedoel BP erop met de bekende BP kleuren.

Eind jaren 90 mocht Ogilvy & Mather zich buigen over de toekomst van BP en zij kwamen met de Helion. Het logo (niet door hen ontworpen) moest vooral de investering in duurzaamheid en alternatieve brandstoffen uitbeelden. En ook ik vond toen dat ze daar goed in geslaagd waren. Zwarte, giftige blubberolie was verweg verscholen achter de groen-en-gele zonnebloempatronen. Geen vuiltje in de zee bij BP.

Greenpeace dacht daar toen, hoe kan het ook anders, heel anders over en gaf BP de “Emerald Paintbrush” prijs. Iets wat stond voor de meest geslaagde ‘groenwas’ reclamecampagne. Nu heeft Greenpeace helaas zijn gelijk gekregen na de fatale explosie van de Deepwater Horizon. De ergste olieramp uit de geschiedenis! Al verbaas ik mij over de summiere berichtgeving over de zichtbare gevolgen. Geen beelden van duizend besmeurde vogels, zwarte rotsen en stranden.., ik kan wel janken.
Maar wel alles over het ontslag van topman Tony Hayward die in oktober met ‘En nu wegwezen! hier heb je 1,4 miljoen pond’ moet vertrekken
Na deze ramp weer een nieuw logo voor BP, maar dan Greenpeace als opdrachtgever.
Je kunt al een maandje niet meer meedoen, maar kijk hier voor meer inzendingen restyle BP logo.
